First merchant navy graduate passes away
ITANAGAR, Feb 24: The first merchant navy graduate from Arunachal Pradesh Kholie Tanya yesterday passed away at his Jollang resident. Late Tanya graduated from Marco Polo Institute of Marine Electronics, Bangalore. A native of Jollang village near Itanagar, late Tanya completed his schooling from Sainik School Goalpara Assam in the year 1984.
Upon completing his course, Tanya while on vacation at his village got inflicted by Malaria, which cut short his fledging career. The Kholie Brother Welfare Society in a release informed that he died peacefully at his resident and was cremated today.

Training on organic farming and soil health management held
ITANAGAR, Feb 24: A state level training programme on organic farming and soil health management for sustainable agriculture in North East India began at College of Horticulture & Forestry, CAU, Pasighat today.
As many as 17 officials from various departments and KVKs are attending the five days programme organized by the Department of Natural Resource Management, College of Horticulture & Forestry, CAU, Pasighat.
Inaugurating the programme Dr. BR Phukan, Dean (i/c), College of Horticulture & Forestry, CAU, Pasighat emphasized on the importance of organic farming and soil health management in all aspects of farming.

CM distributes land deeds to city dwellers
Guwahati, Feb 24: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today formally initiated the process to grant the ownership deeds to city dwellers occupying government land for over 10 years with handing over the documents to them on a day when farmer activist Pranab Boro set himself ablaze demanding land rights.
The Chief Minister said the process for distribution of land patta (land deed) to those occupying government land for 10 years and above has started in right earnest.
Assam: Four injured in grenade blast
Rangia, Feb 24: At least four persons were injured in a grenade blast at a place bordering Kamrup and Baksa districts in lower Assam on Monday.
Police sources said two grenades were hurled by two motorcycle riders at Gasbari daily market near Goreswar at a around 6.10pm injuring four persons on the spot.
Police went to the site and the injured were taken to hospital. The identity of those who hurled the explosives has not been established, they said. PTI

Reduce cost of HSRP: AAPPTF

Sena inaugurates Kovin water lifting irrigation system & RADP at Changlang district
CHANGLANG, Feb 24 : Agriculture, Horticulture & Animal Husbandry Minister Setong Sena inaugurated lift irrigation system at Kovin village of Jairampur and launched implementation process of Rain fed Area Development Programme (RADP) at Manmao block of Changlang District on February 22 last.

PMC organizes 2nd workshop of City Sanitation
PASIGHAT, Feb 24: The second workshop of City Sanitation Plan of Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC) was organized today under the Chairmanship of the Chief Municipal Councilor, DenongTamuk in the conference hall of PMC.
Altogether, thirty participants including municipal councillors and members of City Sanitation Task Force (CSTF) attended the workshop. The main objective of the 2nd Workshop was to explain the status of sanitation activities in the town to participants along with the process and means of conducting 100% sanitation campaign.

He stated that the poor sanitation is affecting the health of people and asked the consultant to explain properly and prepare a good sanitation plan for PMC.

Water crisis in Pasighat township

ITANAGAR, Feb 24: Water crisis in Pasighat township area is a perennial problem. Summer or winter, the drinking water crisis has always been a major issue for the residents of Pasighat township area.
Lack of proper management on the part of concerned department, lack of drinking water conservation awareness among the citizen, negligence on the part of consumer regarding payment of water bills, shortage of water in intake points due to poor management by concerned department are contributing factors to the drinking water crisis, despite available water resources in the district.
In Pasighat particularly in Bazar, Jarkong, Public Bus station, Baskota and SS Mission areas thousands of citizens have been facing drinking water shortages for many months particularly due to digging of ponds for swimming pool and amusement park in the drinking water intake point at the cost of people.
Here, most of the residents get one time water supply through water tankers a day or two.
No doubt, to meet the drinking water requirement of the citizens, Public Health Department has been arranging water tankers, but people living away from main roads are facing difficulty to avail even this provision.
A citizens informed that they are not happy with this make shift arrangement as they need a better solution to meet the demands for drinking water. He also informed that “though in scanty quantity the supply of water in pipelines has resumed recently”.
The prime reason for this difficulty is the construction of Ponds for establishment of swimming pool as the intake points dried ups due to digging of ponds just below the intake point.
Apart from this, there is no any fencing in the intake point. Before undertaking these swimming pool and amusement park projects there were fencing and a building in the said location to monitor and regulate the flow of water.
But today, the scenario has totally changed as there is no any such regulatory building and fencing around the intake point. Though the concerned department is conducting safe drinking water or sanitation programmes in the township area and villages, they forgot to undertake sanitation activities and supply clean drinking water to large number of citizens of the said areas.

It is heartening to know that entire country is expressing their solidarity over the brutal killing of our beloved brother late Nido Tania. The episode was given a national character by news channels like Times Now, Headlines today and various other channels. Being alarmed by such brutality, whole day I kept browsing news channel to catch up every details of what would be next. But, alas! Every time I switched on my TV, it would show me some unending debate of politicians and time consuming advertisements. Few years ago, in South Delhi while entire Arunachal students were expressing solidarity with press fraternity by organizing protest against the brutal attack on young lady journalist Tongam Rina of Arunachal Times I was amazed to find most of the country's leading news channels like Zee news, Times Now and others present except my favourite Aaj Tak channel. I was thinking what is wrong with this news channel? Is there any reason for not covering us? Yes, there may be one solid reason. "Few years ago some guys in Itanagar broke vehicle of Aaj Tak and even attacked its staff, which forced them to flee from the state," told me a fellow Arunachalee. Dear people of Arunachal, let's stop acting like wild animals. Today we claim that we are in modern age but sadly many are seen acting like they are still in Tarzan era. This generation is perishing anyhow but let's save our future generation. Lastly today we can be proud of having successfully united every Indians in protest against various injustices........be it Tongam Rina's case, Tarrasso incident or late Nido Tania's case. It is only because of the incredible role played by our media and press fraternity that our minds are truly awakened.

KGBV teachers being ignored by state government
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily, I on behalf of East Kameng Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya Teachers Association (EKKGBVTA) would like to draw kind attention of Government of Arunachal Pradesh towards hardship faced by the teachers working under the ambitious programme of Government of Arunachal Pradesh that is Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV).
The GoAP are interested to promote girls education in Arunachal Pradesh but they are totally ignoring the welfare of staffs working under KGBVs of Arunachal Pradesh.
The salaries of staffs are very meager as compared to duties that we perform. The
prices of essential commodities are getting hiked day by day but our salary remains
stagnate since it was implemented from 2005-
From that very moment the KGBV staffs started to submit memorandum after memorandum to GoAP but still our genuine demands are not fulfilled till date and GoAP is remaining silent towards our demands.
At present also indefinite pen down strike was declared by AAPKGBVTA from 27th January 2014 but still GoAP is not in mood to solve our problems. GoAP is totally responsible for the present pen down strike because they failed to meet our genuine demands.
Hope, our grievances will be looked into by the authorities in the right earnest and needful action be taken at the earliest possible.
